You will find that as you progress in your sock knitting, it will tighten up.  I started out on bamboo 3&#039;s, now I use bamboo 1&#039;s at 8 st. per inch.  It makes a great fabric.  For socks - always make sure you have 100g of sock yarn....you won&#039;t run out that way hopefully!!!
