The expressions on the pigeon's face continually crack her up. I always figure if a reading teacher recommends a book it's gotta be good. I love his picture books; like you said, there's a message without beating kids over the head with it, and I love the way he uses the illustration and fonts (as well as that grouchy pigeon!). There's one of his called "Knuffle Bunny" which is just adorable. Love the socks and thanks for the link to the Sherman heel--I've been hearing about it, and wondering if it's different than the short-row heel that I use. Then again, I'd probably have to find out what one I use first. ;-) Ooh! Mo Willems!
