As for the sweater and fit ... have you tried a top down sweater? Patterns from KNitting Pure and Simple are great. You can try them on as you go along, make them longer or shorter, add shaping or anything else for that matter. Plus, since they are done from the top down there is no seaming to do other than weave in the ends once they are done. Pretty much all of my sweaters are done this way these days. Great socks!!
